Performance Cycling Coaches at Maui Cycling Camps

Andreas Hestler and Seamus McGrath are just back from Maui, Hawaii, where they were coaching at  Maui Cycling Camps with Ryder Hesjedal and Friends .

We logged over 25 hours of training in 7 days with Ryder, Christian Vandevelde and Tyler Farrar. The highlight of the trip was climbing the 10,000 ft. Haleakala volcano from sea level! At PCC, we strive to be at the forefront of cycling knowledge, and coaching at training camps with the top Pro Tour cyclists in the world helps us stay on the leading edge. We are looking forward to hosting our camps in Victoria B.C. in February and March, and sharing the knowledge we gained at Maui Cycling Camps

Olympians Complete Successful Training Camp

Victoria B.C. -   Performance Cycling Camps (PCC) successfully completed their inaugural camp, held March 8-14, 2010, Victoria B.C.

The first camp hosted by Parkside Resort and Spa in downtown Victoria was an absolute success. During the week, clients were exposed to a scaled version of the training a professional cyclist would undergo in preparation for their upcoming season.

Seamus McGrath and Andreas Hestler both Canadian Olympians founded Performance Cycling Camps (PCC) to ensure that the knowledge they gained with the Canadian National Cycling Team and their combined experience of over 40 cycling years was not lost, but passed on. Having both competed in short course World Cup style and the new growth sector of Epic Mountain biking such as BC Bike Race, they saw an exchange of knowledge was needed in the pre-season to ensure people’s absolute achievement of their summer goals, whatever they were.

During the camp all facets of building a complete cycling season were covered.  During the days, base miles; both long road and mountain bike rides were provided with some technical practice thrown in, while the evenings were reserved for cross training and  an exchange of knowledge. The evening sessions saw a diverse range of offerings; physiological testing with useable heart rate and wattage zones provided, core strength training, stretching, video position analysis, bike set up,  season preparation, mental training, goal setting, recovery techniques and a nutritional discussion was also conducted. To aid in recovery, the clients were treated to a hydrotherapy session and a massage mid-week.

Client Craig Gillette said “I learned so much during the camp; Andreas and Seamus really know a lot about cycling. I can’t wait to put some of the fitness and knowledge I gained into training for this year’s BC Bike Race.”

Victoria, the former Canadian National Cycling Training Center was chosen for the wide variety of available facilities and the bike friendly nature of the city cannot be matched anywhere else.

A special ‘thank you’ goes out to Parkside Hotel in Victoria, who hosted this year’s camp, providing us with excellent facilities and luxurious accommodations. Performance Cycling Camps will be hosting another training camp in December 2010.

2012 Performance Cycling Camps Presented by Canadian Olympians Seamus McGrath and Andreas Hestler

With over 45 years of experience between the two, Andreas and Seamus know a few things about preparing for a race season! Come join the Canadian Olympians at Performance Cycling Camps to set the foundations for a successful race season.  Long time friends and competitors, Andreas and Seamus came up through the Canadian National team system at a time when Yury Kashirin was the head coach. Yury passed along the eastern European methods of training, and since then, Hestler and McGrath have gone on to conduct successful racing careers, with three Olympics under their belts!

One of the most important things to setting up a cycling season is starting with a solid foundation of riding and knowlege. This is what we provide at Performance Cycling Camps! Set your season up for sucess! The style of training that we offer has developed a long list of Canadian cycling champions that is quite impressive.  We chose Victoria to host these training camps as this is where we did our winter training during our careers, and found this to be the best place in North America to do it. There are World class roads and trails, amazing cross training facilities and opportunities - along with lots of good food to be found!  We have an ideal network of contacts in the high performance field here in Victoria; including access to the best therapists, testing facilities and mechanical support available.

Here’s how an average day looks like: Group road or MTB ride, always supported with a vehicle or a professional rider for mechanical and nutrition support. Recovery afterwards, followed by a gym session to address core / strength / imbalance issues. After eating some good food and discussing the day's training, we will host Q&A sessions where we can fill you in on all you need to know - nutrition, coaching advice, season planning, recovery techniques, technical advice and competition advice. A few of the days will also include some serious, but fun cross training - and of course, there will certainly be some stories told. We will offer a challenging but fun time! This style of a training camp fostered a drive to succeed within us and created great camaraderie amongst the members of the national team. We aim to re create this atmosphere; make the committment to yourself this year and come see what the next level is all about!

Limited Numbers!

In order to provide a world-class training camp experience, we will be limiting the numbers of participants in our camps. This ensures that we can provide excellent one on one service! Register now!
